James Roobottom // Managing Director

James established the practice in 2011, bringing over two decades of experience delivering bespoke residential and commercial architecture across the UK and overseas.

After completing his architectural studies at the University of Huddersfield and leading substantial housing and commercial schemes in Leeds, James spent a formative period practicing in Bermuda. There, he was responsible for the design, detailing, and delivery of ultra-prime private villas, swimming pool complexes, and luxury coastal residences for an international clientele.

Today, James splits his practice and life between North Wales and Cheshire, directing studio operations from Snelson and the North Wales coast. This dual presence positions the practice uniquely for clients commissioning high-spec primary residences in Cheshire East, as well as those developing luxury coastal homes and second residences across the Llŷn Peninsula and Anglesey.

His architectural focus centers on bespoke replacement dwellings, whole-house transformations, and low-energy contemporary builds. Combining striking architectural form with technical rigour, James brings specialist expertise in Passivhaus methodology, breathable retrofit construction, and navigating sensitive Green Belt and coastal planning constraints. Having guided hundreds of builds from concept to site completion, he remains hands-on across every commission.

Outside the studio, you’ll usually find him with his family on the water—whether surfing, sailing, or spending downtime at their coastal retreat in Abersoch
