Rossett - New Community Hub
Hwb Yr Orsedd is situated on the very edge of the Rossett Conservation Area as a gateway into it. The Hwb is intended to prevent social isolation, serving the local community through the delivery of key services by occupying this key position in the village. The design has a dual-aspect; one of heritage brick, sympathetic to the local vernacular and the other responding to the playfulness of the adjacent park in light Welsh larch cladding. Community is at the heart of the Hwb and JAR has put that central to the design ethos.Richard Sandbach ARB RIBA (Architect)
In the tranquil heart of Rossett, nestled within a lush green park, stands a beacon of community spirit and architectural ingenuity: the newly designed Rossett Community Hub. Designed with a deep respect for the surrounding conservation area, this low-level structure harmonizes effortlessly with its natural surroundings, embodying a commitment to sustainability and connectivity.
Designed predominantly from timber, the building exudes warmth and earthy elegance, seamlessly blending into the landscape. Its horizontal profile gently embraces the contours of the land, ensuring minimal disruption to the scenic beauty that defines Rossett. The use of timber not only pays homage to traditional building materials but also underscores the hub's eco-conscious ethos, promoting a sense of environmental stewardship.
From the moment one approaches the hub, the symbiotic relationship between architecture and nature becomes evident. Walls of glass stretch across the facade, inviting the lush greenery of the park to weave its way into the interior spaces. This seamless integration of indoor and outdoor realms fosters a sense of openness and expansiveness, while flooding the hub with natural light that dances playfully upon the timber surfaces.
As visitors step inside, they are greeted by a welcoming atmosphere that echoes the warmth of the surrounding community. The interior spaces are thoughtfully laid out to accommodate a myriad of activities, from communal gatherings to educational workshops and cultural events. Flexibility is key, with movable partitions and adaptable furnishings allowing the hub to transform effortlessly to meet the evolving needs of its diverse inhabitants.
At the heart of the hub lies a central atrium, a vibrant social hub where residents can come together to exchange ideas, share stories, and forge meaningful connections. Towering trees rise majestically in the park, creating a striking juxtaposition of natural and man-made elements. Here, amidst the dappled sunlight and the gentle rustle of leaves, the essence of community thrives.
Beyond its role as a social epicenter, the Rossett Community Hub also serves as a catalyst for sustainable living and environmental education. Green technologies such as solar panels and air source heating systems are seamlessly integrated into the design, reducing the hub's ecological footprint while inspiring visitors to embrace more eco-friendly practices in their own lives.
In every aspect of its design, from its humble timber construction to its seamless integration with the park, the Rossett Community Hub stands as a testament to the power of architecture to enrich lives and strengthen communities. It is more than just a building; it is a living, breathing testament to the values of sustainability, connectivity, and inclusivity that define the spirit of Rossett.
The ability of being able to bring our design sensibilities in to public and communal spaces that have a social good at their heart is a privilege that JAR Architecture relish.
